Hikia “Coco” Dixon began her business ventures with Cocos Chalky Paints – a paint powder that mixes with water for use on nearly any surface. This unique idea landed her as a semi-finalist in Chain Reaction Season 4. Since then, she has expanded with Cocos Selfie Space – one of the largest selfie museums in the country. According to Hikia – all of that is only the beginning.
“I am trying to create something in downtown Cleveland that has not been created,” Hikia tells us.
She is expanding her 30,000 square feet Selfie Space to add a vintage shop. The shop is on the left side of the existing space, making her business the first in Cleveland history to be accessible from both sides of the 5th St Arcades. She says that meant breaking through two different buildings, as one was built in 1898, the other in 1911, and the final connection of the two was done in 2000.
“Everything that’s inside the shop, you’re not going to find on Amazon,” Hikia remarks.
She’s made a name for herself as a “trash collector” – taking things others might see as invaluable and making them new again. She says it began with literal dumpster diving; now, people call her up when they spot a piece she could transform.
“Everything in my spaces has a story. Whether I’ve gotten in from the sidewalk or whether I’ve gotten it from someone who no longer uses it – it has a story,” she says. “When you come into my spaces, it just makes you want to say wow.”
The shop is set to open on June 14. To learn more about Cocos Selfie Space and her other ventures, click here.
